Five Myths About Your Insurance

FIVE MYTHS ABOUT YOUR INSURANCE. Not everything you’re hearing is true. MYTH #1 As a member of the OSA, your OMA insurance will be cancelled. NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. This would only happen if you cease to be a member of the OMA, fail to pay your premiums or cancel your coverage. MYTH #2 Moving your insurance to the OSA is obligatory. NO,IT ISN’T. If you have existing insurance
with the OMA, your coverage will continue here with us. MYTH #3 I need to cancel my
OMA Insurance to get
OSA Insurance. NO, THAT IS NOT NECESSARY. You may be misled into believing this, however you can choose to
be covered by both or any other provider. We recommend you never cancel your insurance until you have new insurance coverage in place.
MYTH #4 If I join the OSA I have to
terminate my membership
in the OMA. NO. THE OMA
REPRESENTS YOU. The OMA is the only negotiating body for practicing physicians
in Ontario. You may choose to
be a non-member, but choosing
to be part of the OSA does not
require you to give up your OMA membership. MYTH #5 The OMA is harassing me with confusing emails. NO, IT IS NOT THE OMA CONTACTING YOU. We are happy to address any
questions you have, but we have not contacted you directly regarding your insurance coverage. Please ask for the full name of the person contacting you and report it to the CRTC at
