Whether you're travelling for business, pleasure or humanitarian reasons, OMA’s enhanced OPIP coverage can help make your trip worry-free.
Global Security Evacuation Coverage (SEC) assists you and your family while travelling outside of Canada, for either business or leisure travel, with evacuation to the nearest place of safety in the event of a hostile or dangerous situation.
SEC, provided by Drum Cussac through Chubb Life Insurance, will also pay expenses for such evacuation up to a maximum of $100,000 per trip outside of Canada. Drum Cussac will make maximum use of scheduled airlines and may use other available resources to accomplish the evacuation including private aircraft, ground and/or sea transportation, in which event the point of departure may vary.
The plan also includes trip cancellation and trip delay coverage, payments for lost baggage or passports and for loss of personal property when travelling outside of Canada.
Before you leave, simply register your itinerary with the
Overwatch program and get additional peace of mind that if a travel alert is issued, you will be notified. This state-of the-art service allows you to check the situation before, during and after your trip and be monitored and supported anywhere in the world at any moment, with over 200 languages spoken at the 24/7 crisis response centre.
The Overwatch Protection App lets you
register your itinerary, which then gives you access to travel alerts, immediate access to the crisis response centre, an SOS alert button for emergencies, the ability to activate tracking and update your location by manually selecting the “Check In” option. For physicians travelling to high risk destinations, the plan also offers ongoing monitoring and frequent contact during the trip.
The principal sum amount of this coverage is $10,000. This benefit provides coverage for all active members under the age of 80, for losses experienced while travelling outside Canada.
The following benefits are also covered for those inconveniences that can occur while travelling and apply to any travel outside of Canada:
The insurer will reimburse the amount of non-refundable covered expenses, up to $1,000 if you are prevented from taking a trip or if the trip is interrupted as the result of injury, sickness or death.
An injury or sickness must be so disabling, as determined by an independent physician, as to reasonably cause the trip to be cancelled. An independent physician, for the purposes of this policy, cannot be the insured or a member of their immediate family. If you must cancel the trip due to injury or sickness of an immediate family member, it must be because his or her condition is life-threatening, or because he or she requires your care. Cancellation due to the death of an immediate family member is covered only if the death occurs 30 days prior to the trip departure date.
Any claim for covered expenses that have been incurred must be accompanied by receipts. This benefit is payable only for one delay of your trip.
You must provide the insurance company with proof of the delay such as a letter from the airline, cruise line or tour operator, newspaper clipping (online or print), weather report, police report or the like, and proof of the expenses claimed as a result of the delay.
You will be reimbursed the replacement costs of clothes and personal hygiene items, up to the benefit maximum ($1,000) if, during a trip, your luggage is checked onto a common carrier, and is then lost, stolen or damaged. Replacement costs are calculated on the basis of the depreciated standard for the specific personal item claimed and its average usable period.
You must file a formal claim with the airline and provide ACE INA Insurance with copies of all claim forms and any proof of reimbursement by the common carrier for the lost, stolen or damaged luggage.
Benefits for lost baggage will be in excess of any amount paid by the carrier responsible for the loss and subject to the benefit maximum shown.
The Company will reimburse you the reasonable cost, up to the benefit maximum ($1,000) for replacement of any personal property that is lost or totally destroyed while on your trip. Replacement costs are calculated on the basis of the depreciated standard for the specific item claimed and its average usable period. You must demonstrate that you have taken reasonable precautions for the safety and security of your property. The insurer requires certification by a police or security authority in an incident report.
For any claims under this benefit, the insurance company is entitled to make reasonable repairs or salvage efforts to restore the personal property or to keep the damaged property if the company chooses to do so. The insurance company will require valid receipts of replacement goods prior to payment of any benefits.
Benefits for lost personal property will be in excess of any amount paid by the carrier responsible for the loss and subject to the benefit maximum shown.
If after departure of a trip or within 14 days prior to the proposed departure of a trip, your passport and/or visa is lost or stolen, the insurer will reimburse you, up to the benefit maximum ($500), for the fees charged by the appropriate Consular passport and/or visa office and the necessary additional cost of travel and accommodation incurred to enable you to obtain any official or temporary travel documents or replacement passport and/or visa.
It is a condition precedent to liability that you notify the consular representative as soon as reasonably possible after the loss or theft.
In the event that you are unable to join a pre-booked scheduled flight as a consequence of that flight being overbooked by the carrier, the insurance company will pay you up to the benefit maximum ($400).
With respect to air travel, the insurance afforded shall apply to loss caused by or resulting from travel or flight in any aircraft, or any other device for aerial navigation, including boarding or alighting therefrom, except:
