1. Flexible Coverage

Coverage available for you from $100,000 to $3,000,000 in $25,000 increments for both Flex 10 and Flex 20 plans.

2. Guaranteed Rates

For the first 10 years of the Flex 10 and 20 years for the Flex 20, your rates are locked in and are guaranteed not to increase, regardless of changes to your health. After 10 years for the Flex 10 and 20 years for the Flex 20, you have the opportunity to re-examine your plan options at guaranteed rates.

3. Convertible to Permanent Term to Age 100 Coverage

All or part of your coverage can be converted without medical evidence any time before you reach the age of 65 for both Flex coverages.

4. Portable Worldwide Coverage

You can continue your coverage regardless of where you live as long as you are a member of an eligible medical Association/Society.

5. Immediate Coverage

You may be eligible for immediate interim coverage while your application is being processed.

6. Optional Waiver of Premium

Should you become totally disabled before age 60 and remain totally disabled for 180 consecutive days, premiums may be waived for as long as you remain totally disabled.

7. Optional Accidental Death & Dismemberment Coverage (AD&D)

In the event of your death or dismemberment due to an accident, a lump sum payment may be made in addition to any other benefit you or your family might already receive, making AD&D the perfect complement to your Flex-Term Life coverage. Learn more about Optional AD&D Coverage.

Coverage is simple and the premiums are extremely competitive. Rates depend on a variety of factors such as gender, age and smoking status. Eligibility

OMA Flex 10 and Flex 20 Life Insurance is available exclusively to members of the OMA or an Atlantic Association/Society and their spouse, who reside in Canada and are under the age of 65 for Flex 10 and age 55 for Flex 20.

The Underwriting Process

OMA Insurance works to streamline the underwriting process as much as possible, reducing the complexity and time required to arrange coverage. Here are the steps required: ​

Application
Obtain your application either online, or by calling us. Once completed, simply send the form and a void cheque back to OMA Insurance. If applying for interim coverage please include one month's premium, payable to OMA Insurance.

Telephone Interview
A simple 20-30 minute call to review your health and work history. Please have attending physician and medication information handy, as well as financial documentation.

Blood Chemistry Profile/Urinalysis
An appointment will be scheduled for a nurse to collect blood and urine samples conveniently at your home or office.​

Attending Physician's Statement
A medical statement may be needed. By ensuring your physician responds quickly, you can help accelerate the entire process. Additional information may also be required.

Final Approval & Interim Coverage
It usually takes up to six weeks for the provider to process all the information and arrive at the underwriting decision. You may receive interim coverage while your application is being processed.

Issue Resolution
If you disagree with any part of the decision, you may appeal. Your OMA Insurance team will explain your situation, assist in helping you resolve any difficulties, or suggest alternative solutions.

If, for any reason you’re not completely satisfied with your coverage, simply return your certificate without claim within that time for a full refund of any premiums paid.

While the group plan described above has been specifically designed with physicians in ​mind, you may have circumstances that require an individual plan. Either way, your OMA Insurance advisor is here to help. 

Flex 10 and Flex 20 Life Insurance group policies no. G-29700 and G-29800 respectively are underwritten by New York Life Insurance Company. Residents of Quebec are eligible if: 1) they practice or study outside of Quebec but still reside in Canada; 2) the application was signed in a province or territory other than Quebec and 3) the certificate and all other communications are delivered in a province or territory other than Quebec. Coverage will continue as long as (i) you pay your premium when due; (ii) you maintain membership in an eligible medical association/society; (iii) the group policy remains in force; and (iv) if you are a medical student, you do not cease to be a full-time medical student without otherwise being eligible for membership in one of the sponsoring associations/societies. Spousal coverage will continue as long as your coverage remains in effect, premiums are paid when due and the group policy is not modified. This fact sheet is a summary of the major features of the group insurance program under policies G-29700 and G-29800 respectively. Complete terms are governed by the group insurance policy issued by New York Life Insurance Company, Canadian Chief Agency, 2100 Scotia Plaza, 40 King St. West, Toronto, Ontario M5H 3C2 on policy form GMR-FACE-G-29700. New York Life has no right to cancel the group policy as long as premiums are paid when due. Some conditions apply.​
