Travelling? Don’t skip insurance.
OMA Insurance
3/10/2016
As you start to think about your upcoming travel plans, one of the easiest ways to get organized is to make a “to do” list.  Ok, so it sounds a little like grocery shopping, but a list is the first step to planning a stress-free holiday. While booking a flight, hotel, and rental car are probably at the top of your list, another item that should be near the top is travel insurance.

As a physician, you know the value of having the right protection when travelling – from inoculations to stomach medication to sunscreen. And while no one ever plans on falling ill or having an accident while away on holiday, isn't it worth purchasing travel insurance so you can have a worry-free trip?

As an OMA Member there are several options to consider when planning to travel– whether in Canada, the United States or worldwide. OMA members enjoy access to a wide range of flexible solutions with a variety of features.

As a member of the OMA, you have convenient access to a wide range of comprehensive, flexible travel insurance solutions at preferred rates from RSA – a trusted provider of travel protection.1 To access these rates, simply call 1.855.444.1488 or visit OMAinsurance.com.

There are 3 ways you can access travel protection as an OMA member:

1.    Coverage options are available for a specific upcoming trip and for an unlimited number of trips throughout an entire year.

2.    If you have Health or Health Plus2 benefits with OMA Insurance you and your covered dependants are protected with up to $2-million emergency out-of-country medical coverage for the first 90 days of travel if you are under age 70 and for the first 30 days of travel, if you are age 70 or over.

3.    Members who participate in OPIP have 3 types of travel coverage:

b.  Security Evacuation coverage

Global Security Evacuation Coverage assists you and your family while travelling outside of Canada, for either business or leisure travel, with evacuation to the nearest place of safety in the event of a hostile or dangerous situation.

The following benefits are also included under the Security Evacuation coverage, travelling outside of Canada, for those inconveniences that can occur while travelling:

Many credit cards also offer comprehensive travel insurance as a card benefit, including: travel medical, car rental, travel accident, trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, lost baggage, and motel burglary amongst others. You should also be aware that some credit card insurances only apply if you pay for the covered service with your credit card. For example, you have to pay for your airline ticket with your credit card to be covered by its trip cancellation insurance.
