Legal Expense Insurance Claims

​How do I make a claim?​

Making a claim with DAS is easy and convenient. It involves four simple steps:

Step 1. Call the Legal Advice Helpline at 1.855.953.1433 to speak with an intake agent to discuss your situation.

The helpline is available between 8 a.m. and midnight, 7 days a week. In an emergency situation, DAS can facilitate access to a lawyer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You will be asked for your name and policy number to ensure that your policy is in force and to confirm your identity. You policy number is your OMA Number. If a lawyer is not immediately available, you will be asked to provide a suitable time to receive a call-back.

Step 2. The lawyer will discuss your issue in detail with you and provide the necessary advice. If the lawyer believes the issue is a potential claim under the policy, your file is forwarded to the DAS Claims department.

Step 3. Your file is reviewed and a coverage decision is made. If the legal issue is eligible for coverage, the file is forwarded to one of the DAS panel lawyers. Your Claims representative will work with you and your assigned lawyer, to ensure your claim moves forward in an efficient manner. Keep in mind that many legal situations can take a substantial amount of time to resolve.
