Atlantic Benefits Program

In partnership with OMA Insurance, the Newfoundland & Labrador Medical Association (NLMA),
Medical Society of Prince Edward Island (MSPEI) and New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) will be offering a new optional benefits program addressing the needs of Atlantic-based physicians both now and in the future.
This bundled plan consists of Health and Group Critical Illness (CI) Insurance or Health Plus and Group Critical Illness Insurance.

Health or Health Plus provides extended health care and Group Critical Illness (CI) Insurance offers additional funds should you be diagnosed with one of twenty-five conditions under the policy. These conditions often involve treatments and expenses outside of traditional health plans, and the Critical Illness coverage helps protect against financial hardship so that it does not interfere with the member seeking out proper care when needed.

We’re offering a one-time enrolment without medical evidence if you apply within 90 days of receiving the offer.

Extended health care (either Health or Health Plus) coverage and $50,000 in Group Critical Illness coverage, which is subject to a pre-existing condition provision, applies to members residing in Canada outside of Quebec who are:

  • Physicians working at least 15 hours a week, or
  • Retiree members of the association/society who are able to perform the Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) and
  • Under age 79 for Health/Health Plus and Dental and under age 65 for CI.
  • Spouses under the age of 65 are eligible to purchase spousal Group CI for $50,000 without submitting medical evidence at time of application, subject to a pre-existing condition provision and provided the spouse is actively at work for at least 15 hours per week or meets the ADL’s.

Members who do not accept the offer within the limited time period, outlined above, may apply to participate in the Health/Health Plus and Group Critical Illness plans at any other time; however they will be required to provide medical evidence.
